Diminished Value (DV) is the loss in market value that occurs when a vehicle is wrecked and repaired. A reasonable consumer will not pay the same price for a wrecked, then repaired vehicle, as they will for a vehicle with no accident history. Even if the repairs were done well, the vehicle will still lose value. Most vehicles suffer a 15% to 25% or more loss in market value. That’s even after being repaired.

In Florida, Florida law permits owners to recover for diminished value from the at-fault party’s insurance policy following an accident. You have (4) years, from the date of accident, to file a diminished value claim.

What to do if you are in an auto accident?

First, make sure you and your passengers are ok or need medical assistance. Call police. If possible, take 360 high-quality photos of the damage to your vehicle, the scene of the accident, and insurance cards and ID. Take photos that show entire vehicle in a single frame, close up photos of damages, unibody-frame damage, undercarriage, interior, VIN number, and mileage on odometer.
